News Release: Prisma Health and YMCA of Greenville Expand Longstanding Partnership

GREENVILLE, S.C. (July 15, 2024) – YMCA of Greenville and Prisma Health have a long history of partnering together to improve health outcomes for Greenville County residents, to create a safe space for individuals and families, and to provide evidence-based health programs. Today, the organizations announce that fitness operations of the Prisma Health Life Center on Faris Road will be transitioned to the YMCA of Greenville in early fall 2024.

Prisma Health will continue to offer and manage nationally recognized medical programs at the facility including the cancer-recovery Moving On program, the Heartlife cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation program, and diabetes education. A new “bridge” program for adaptive sports and wellness participants through Prisma’s Roger C. Peace Rehabilitation Hospital will also be offered.

As part of a long-term lease and operating agreement, the YMCA of Greenville, a leader in fitness and wellness, will oversee and expand the fitness programs based at the Life Center. Immediate plans include infrastructure upgrades such as enhanced lighting and flooring as well as installation of new state-of-the-art fitness equipment. Moving forward, members of the Life Center YMCA will be able to participate in a variety of Y Signature programs such as group exercise classes, personal training, aquatics programming and more, led by a highly credentialed wellness staff.

The Prisma Health Life Center will close for renovation on Friday, September 20. Current Life Center members will be able to use other YMCA locations during the closure. Medical programs will continue to be offered at the Life Center during the upgrades.

“The YMCA of Greenville has built a strong reputation for the superior experience they offer their members and program participants,” said Tim Brookshire, chief executive officer for Prisma Health’s Greenville Memorial Campus. “Having collaborated with them on many programs over the years, we are confident that transitioning fitness operations to them will help ensure a continuity of outstanding fitness care for our Life Center members.”

For more than 170 years, the YMCA of Greenville has helped thousands of Greenvillians improve their health and wellness through a variety of programs and services.

“We’re excited to see the incredible possibilities ahead as the Y expands the strong services and wellness options already in place,” said Brookshire. “Prisma Health and the YMCA have the shared goal of providing more opportunities and access to keep people healthy and well throughout their lifetimes.”

“When two organizations whose primary focus is finding ways to deliver accessible, inclusive health services come together, everyone in the community wins,” said Sam Franklin, executive vice president and chief operating officer for the YMCA of Greenville. “It’s more important than ever that organizations like the Y and Prisma Health look for innovative, forward-thinking pathways to ensure these critical health and wellness services are readily available to the people we serve.”

This partnership is the only one of its kind currently in existence for the greater Greenville area.

“Our shared values, as well as a like-minded commitment to community well-being have proven this collaboration to be effective. Our goal is to impact lives through enhanced facilities, programming and community building. We are grateful to Prisma Health for their continued trust in the YMCA of Greenville to deliver quality wellness programs,” said Brian Vest, vice president of operations for the Caine Halter Family and Verdae YMCAs.

Vest will also oversee operations for the new Life Center YMCA. More details will be shared as the timeline progresses.
