February 17,2023:
Message from Brian Vest, District Executive Director, Caine Halter Family YMCA :
At the Caine Halter Family Y, you (our valued members and program participants) come first. Your safety, your experience, and the ability to access the resources necessary to realize your potential in spirit, mind, and body are more than just our day-to-day priorities - they're the very heart of what we do and who we are.
Occasionally, we experience circumstances beyond our control that affect our service capability. Our Outdoor Pool bubble was severely damaged last month due to an act of vandalism, rendering it totally unusable for the remainder of this season. This situation has been frustrating, to say the least, and has limited our programming options in recent weeks. On behalf of our staff team, I’d like to thank you for the patience, understanding, and flexibility you’ve demonstrated during this time. We’re grateful that our Indoor Pool operation is uninterrupted and that we offer pool access for members at several other YMCA of Greenville locations.
What's next? We plan to open the outdoor pool April 3rd (weather permitting). If you are interested in more detail about this decision and all of the options we have considered to create this plan, feel free to explore more below. Remember, as an active YMCA of Greenville member, you have full access to all of our facilities - including the pools at our Prisma Health Family Y, Eastside Family Y, YMCA Program Center, as well as the Indoor Pool here at the Caine Halter Family Y. View pool schedules for all branches here.
In the fall of 2022, our team began exploring a long-term improvement to the Outdoor Pool. We look forward to upgrading your year-round swimming experience by installing a premium enclosure (not a canvas bubble) before the cold-weather season returns. Soon, we will enter the public phase of this project and share renderings and a more detailed timeline for construction.
If you’re interested in being part of this facility enhancement project, we’d love to speak with you. Contact Jacki Berkshire, Development Director, or reach out to me directly.
Again, please know how much your continued support has meant during this challenging time. We’re hopeful that soon, you’ll join us in celebrating our new plans and the bright future that’s undoubtedly ahead for our Y.
*New updates will be posted to this page in the coming weeks....check back for more information!

Historically, we aim to remove the bubble and open the outdoor pool mid-April. This year, our plan is to have it open for swimming beginning Monday, April 3rd, weather permitting.
We will have this capability once our new boilers have been installed in March. Here's some information about our current water heating capacity:
- Our hot water system uses two centrally located boilers and a series of pumps/heat exchangers to provide domestic hot water (for sinks and showers), run the dehumidification of the Desert Air unit for the indoor pool, and maintain the indoor and outdoor pool water temperature.
- We are currently operating our entire facility with one of the two boilers. One boiler is completely shut down due to an internal failure, which made it unsafe to operate. The functioning boiler is not operating at full capacity.
- In December, we placed an order for two new replacement boilers at a significant $100K investment.
- The replacement boilers are estimated to be installed (in two stages) by March 31st.
- Current Outdoor Pool temperature is around 56 degrees, which unfortunately is too cold for use.
We have explored the potential for a solar pool cover, however, without a fully functioning boiler heating system, it still would not be enough to raise the temperature for cooler water swimming.
